Re: Bartholomew application for minor variance.

Dear Sirs:

The Lake Waseosa Ratepayers' Association does not generally support allowing reduced minimum setbacks from water, however we recognize the unique circumstances and condition of this particular property.  We are strong proponents of naturalized shorelines and riparian zones. This particular property features an ecologically significant creek bordered by lush natural vegetation. Similarly, the waterfront area has been left in a predominantly natural state. It is our opinion that these features provide significant ecological benefits that should be encouraged and maintained.

In the absence of any objections from the adjacent property owners and provided that the property owners are willing to enter into a site plan agreement, registered on title, that will guarantee in perpetuity the following areas will be maintained as a natural buffer zone, populated with native species in a manner similar to that which currently exists on the property today, to wit:

1.      the shoreline area in it's entirety between a line drawn parallel to the face of the eastern most face of the existing structure and Lake Waseosa, and

2.      the area bordering the creek in it’s entirety between the creek and the northern property line,  and

3.      the area bordering the creek in it’s entirety between the southern bank of the creek and the existing line of vegetation

then the Lake Waseosa Ratepayers' Association will not oppose this application for minor variance.

Sincerely,

Dwayne Verhey, Secretary
