It is with great sadness that we announce Diane Howlett passed away in the evening of Tuesday, September 8th.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sept 18, 2:00pm at Billingsleys Funeral Parlour, 430 Ravenscliffe Rd, Huntsville  followed by a reception at the Active Living Centre, 20 Park Drive in Huntsville (accessed at the rear of the Canada Summit Centre or from the new Forbes Hill Drive).

Diane and her husband Bruce purchased their home on Waseosa in 1996. Like so many of us, they used it as a cottage for a few years before Diane retired up here in August of 2000. She soon dragged Bruce along, and he joined her in retirement about 3 months later.

Bruce and Diane immersed themselves whole-heartedly in our community. Bruce of course served on the LWRA Board as a Director and President for several years but while she stayed out of the limelight, Diane was every bit as much involved, and very often proved that behind every great man is a great woman. She worked tirelessly to help organize and deliver just about every event or function the Association held during her time with us.

Diane organized surveys, took minutes, cooked food, organized trophies, set up tables, served refreshments, drew numbers, counted bugs – in short, she did anything and everything that needed to be done. And she did it all with a big smile and cheerful “Hi” for everyone. No matter what was going on in her life at the moment, she always wanted to hear about you and yours.

Diane’s smile was as infectious as it was legendary. Whether it was her smile or her bright pink shirts, all who knew her will remember how she would light up the room (or dock, or deck or tent) when she entered. Philosophical in the face of setbacks and quick to celebrate successes, she made everyone feel better when she was around.

Bruce, Julie, Scott, David, Mathew, Gillian, Cady, James and Emma; we offer you our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy in this trying time.

Diane, you made the world a better place. We will all miss you.

We're all thinking of you
