Bear vs Garbage Box

Bears have a strong sense of smell and can detect potential snacks from a considerable distance. An adult black bear is also physically strong, and can move a considerable weight attempting to get at a potential snack:

Even when that weight is securely bolted to patio stones:

The other boxes in this row were untouched. They were empty. Please don't leave garbage in your box all week! Garbage day is Thursday.

-put garbage out only on the morning of collection
-clean bins with bleach, white vinegar, or ammonia (bears can smell food for 3 miles and smell over 100x stronger than humans.  these strong smells deter it)
-leave ammonia soaked rags in bin.
-do not leave out any food sources/garbage around home.
-bear bells attached to bins
-solar motion lights that use light pattern.  A single light beam will not bother them after it first goes on.
-women menstruating should avoid going on walks, hikes or camping.

They have also been roughing up the garbage bins on East Waseosa Lake Road. The wooden boxes are getting destroyed, while the Tyedee Bins they cannot open.
